Noue
The powerful march ‘NOUE’ honours not only the Musikkapelle Welschnofen (wind band), but also the roots of the municipality of the same name. ‘Noue’ – this is how Welschnofen was first mentioned in 1142 in a deed of donation from Bishop Hartmann of Brixen to the Neustift monastery; an old word from the Romansh language (terra nova), meaning ‘new clearing’ or ‘new land’. Over time, the addition of ‘Welsch’ gave rise to the present-day Welschnofen – a reference to the original linguistic and cultural influences.
The march was composed in 2023 to mark the 175th anniversary of the Musikkapelle Welschnofen and combines tradition with a proud present. With festive verve, it leads us through the melody of history – from the early days as ‘Noue’, through centuries of change, to the lively community spirit that the band embodies today.
