Jubiläumsfanfare
Festive and energetic – this is the sound of the Jubiläumsfanfare (jubilee fanfare), which was commissioned to Tobias Psaier on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Verband Südtiroler Musikkapellen (VSM, Association of South Tyrolean Wind Bands).
Beginning with the timpani and drum rolls that rise from a pianissimo to a forte, the idea of founding the VSM is described. However, the fact that not all South Tyrolean bands were immediately convinced of the advantages of this idea, and even feared a certain kind of paternalism by the Association, is expressed in the following bars: the trumpets first begin their signals in a offset pattern, but soon – together with the flugelhorns and horns – find the same rhythm. Just as the valuable work of the association gained in popularity year after year and today it is impossible to imagine South Tyrol’s cultural life without it.
A quiet interlude, interspersed with small fanfare choruses – the look into the future – lets the successful VSM history pass in review before Psaier leads his work with pompous brass fanfares to its triumphant highpoint and, at the same time, final chord.
