digital noise
Digital Noise was commissioned by and created in close collaboration with tuba player and teacher Alexander Messner. Simon Gamper wrotes a piece for him that deals intensively with the current musical and social context and sees itself less as a ‘solo piece with accompaniment’ and more as music for a new ensemble of acoustic and electronic instruments.
It was important to the composer to make access to the electronic instruments low-threshold and also to utilise omnipresent devices such as smartphones or tablets in a meaningful and creative way.
Digital Noise refers to the digital noise that we are now surrounded by around the clock. It is a poetic reflection on life and the future of people within this new living space, which is located somewhere on the border between analogue and digital. The piece was premiered on 12 March 2025 by the young tuba player Tobias Gögele at the Prima la Musica regional competition in Landeck. He received a special prize from the jury.
