Konrad Kofler was born on July 17, 1949, and grew up in Wangen on the Ritten plateau in South Tyrol. His close connection to wind band music became evident at an early age: in 1969, he joined the local wind band of his hometown as a clarinetist and saxophonist.
He completed his military service with the renowned Italian Army Band, “Banda dell’Esercito,” in Rome, where he gained valuable musical experience and further developed his skills in wind band music at a professional level.
Konrad Kofler attended all wind instructor courses as well as all five bandmaster training courses offered by the Verband Südtiroler Musikkapellen, thereby laying the foundation for his later work as a conductor. In addition to his active role in the local wind band, he was also a member of a dance band for twelve years, broadening his musical versatility and stylistic range.
In 1982, he began his career as a bandmaster. In this responsible position, he conducted the wind bands of Oberinn, Wangen, Welschnofen, Sarnthein, and Karneid, significantly shaping the musical life of these communities over a period of twenty years.
His compositional output includes numerous works for wind orchestra as well as pieces for smaller ensembles, such as brass ensembles, Bohemian-style groups, and traditional “Tanzlmusig” formations. His music is characterized by authenticity, rich tonal color, and a deep connection to the South Tyrolean wind band tradition.
